Health dept forms 700 teams for anti-polio campaign

LAKKI MARWAT: The district health department has formed over 700 teams for the upcoming anti polio drive commencing from tomorrow (Feb 12), said district health officer Dr Taus Khan on Saturday.

Talking to this correspondent by phone, he said that the teams would ensure immunization of targeted population against the fatal polio disease during campaign. He said that the health department with the help of district administration and partner organizations had completed all sorts of arrangements to make the drive a success. He thanked government employees especially paramedics for ending boycott of polio eradication campaign, saying that the genuine problems faced by health staffer will be resolved on priority basis.

The district health officer said that the elements wanting to crested misunderstanding between him and health employees would not succeed at all. “We are committed to make the district polio free and that the health workers will show their commitment by taking enthusiastic part in anti polio drive”, he maintained.

Dr Taus said that a successful mobilization campaign had been launched in the district ahead of anti polio drive so as to convince people especially parents to get their children vaccinated against the deadly epidemic. He said that mobile teams would launch door to door activity while fixed teams would administer oral polio vaccine to kids in health facilities. The health official said that transit teams would be deployed at public places and border points to vaccinate children travelling with parents in public transport vehicles.

He added that special arrangements had been made to immunize children of nomad families and Afghan refugees saying that the task has been assigned to roaming teams with instructions to achieve the target at all costs. The district health officer said that polio teams would be provided with foolproof security so that they could carry out field work without facing any difficulty and ensure achieving vaccination of 187158 children under the age of five successfully.

He said that the health department would also focus on ensuring access of polio workers to every kid and cover refusal cases. He called upon the people especially parents to save their kids from lifelong paralyze by administering them anti polio vaccine during the campaign.
