JI wins majority of LG seats in Dir

TIMERGARA: The Jamaat-i-Islami retained its two tehsil council seats in LG by election in Lower Dir held here on Thursday. According to unofficial and unverified results the JI candidate Haji Aziz ur Rehman got 2030 votes in Samar Bagh tehsil and was elected as tehsil councilor. His rival Sarbiland Khan of PTI who had vacated the seat got 1523 votes while the ANP candidate Aqil Khan bagged 994 votes.

Similarly the JI candidate Gul Hakim Khan was elected tehsil councilor from Shahikhel Talash ward getting 1326 votes. His rival Manzoor Ahmad of the PPP got 953 votes. The JI won majority of the general, peasant and women seats in Lower Dir. The PTI won two general councilor seats, the ANP won only one seat in Khungi village council.

The Voting process continued peacefully for whole the day in all 74 polling stations in Lower Dir and there was no report of unpleasant or untoward incident. Only two women reportedly polled votes in one of the polling stations in Talash.

Talking to this reporter the Lower Dir district nazim Muhammad Rasool Khan, JI secretary information Yaqoob ur Rehman, PPP former minister of state Malik Azmat Khan and PPP candidate for tehsil council seat in Shahikhel Talash said there had been no ban on women voting. They said the women did not turn up on their own. “We are not against women voting but women don’t take part in the process. It is not our fault,” Yaqoob said. The Lower Dir nazim Muhammad Rasool Khan, PPP Malik Azmat Khan, ANP Hussain Shah Yousafzai and administration officers visited different polling stations in the district and expressed satisfaction on election.
