Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed takes oath as CJ LHC

LAHORE: Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan took oath of his office as Chief Justice of Lahore High Court on Friday, Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman administered the oath from newly-appointed Chief Justice during a ceremony at Governor’s House Lahore.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and all senior judges of Lahore High Court’s principal seat including Justice Ali Baqir Najfi, Justice Shahid Bilal, Justice Ms Alia Nelum, Justice Abid Aziz, Justice Sadaqat Ali, Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza, Justice Faisal Zaman Khan, Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, Justice Shahid Kareem, Justice Shahram Sarwar, Justice Asjad Javed, Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed, Justice Ajmad Rafiq and other judges attended the oath taking ceremony.

Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, Lahore High Bar former president Hafeezur Rehman and other senior lawyers also attended the ceremony.

Chief Justice Shahzad Malik was given an honor guard at Lahore High Court. Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed was appointed in LHC on 12 May 2011.

Justice Malik Shahzad born on March 15, 1963 in Pindi Gheap at district Attock. He graduated from Gordon College Rawalpindi and obtained LLB degree from University Law College, Punjab University Lahore in 1989 and started legal practice from Rawalpindi High Court and Supreme Court of Pakistan. He practiced law for 21 years. In 2004 he was elected the Secretary General of the High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi and in 2009 he was elected the President of the High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi. The new Chief Justice of LHC became an Additional Judge in Lahore High Court on May 12, 2011 and was confirmed on May 11, 2013. He will retire as Chief Justice on March 15, 2025.

Earlier, Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb welcomed Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on her arrival at Governor House. CM Maryam Nawaz also held meeting with Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman before the oath taking ceremony.
