Kabul residents complain of issues withdrawing funds from banks

KABUL (TOLOnews): The residents of Kabul complained about challenges in withdrawing money, saying that they are only able to withdraw 100,000 Afs within a period of one month.
They urged the interim government to consider the issue seriously.
“I request that the banks implement their activities based on laws and also the ATM machines be activated,” said Abdul Hamid, a resident of Kabul.
“Unfortunately, the banks don’t implement their work as per the Central Bank’s instructions. The ATM machines should be activated, so that the people can withdraw the money easily,” said Mohammad Turkistani, a resident of Kabul.
This comes as the Central Bank says that efforts are underway to address the challenges in the banking sector.
“People can now take more money from their accounts compared to before. The commercial banks are obliged to adhere to the rules of the Central Bank,” said Hassibullah Noori, a spokesman for the bank.
The economists said that banking facilities will increase the level of investments.
“As much as the clients of the bank are able to withdraw the money, the more money will be invested in economic fields by them,” said Abdul Zahor Mudabir, an economist. This comes as more than $9.5 billion of Afghanistan’s assets were frozen after the Islamic Emirate came to power.
