Khursheed Shah: Nawaz Sharif should not be candidate for PM morally

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah has said Nawaz Sharif should not be a candidate for the post of Prime Minister morally.

In statement on Tuesday, the PPP leader said that there are many question marks on his election from Lahore and there is a general impression that he has been defeated.

As a political worker, I am of the opinion that we should not touch anyone’s mandate, he said.

Khursheed Shah said that People’s Party will not include the elected member of any other party with it and PTI supported members assembly should go with their party.

The real mandate is not with these members but in the hands of the people, he added.

He said PML-N should also not run behind numbers, he advised. He said that PML-N should follow its narrative ‘give respect to vote’.

Shehbaz Sharif or Ayaz Sadiq can also be alternative candidates for the post of Prime Minister, Khursheed Shah said.

He said that it is against the spirit of democracy that we divide the tenure of the Prime Minister among ourselves.

PPP leader said that for democracy and the stability of the state, it is important that the mandate of the people should not be tampered.

Playing with one’s mandate is like playing with people’s sentiments, he said.

Khursheed Shah said that it is the duty of the Supreme Court to compel the Election Commission to take decisions within 15 days as per Form 45.

Right now, the blame is on the Election Commission and if there is a mess in the election tribunals, then the Judiciary will be responsible, he said.

Khursheed Shah advised that PTI supported elected members should decide soon which party they want to join.

People’s Party will not impose its decisions, he said.

Jahangir Tareen has taken the best decision, congratulations to him for this decision, he concluded.
