MPA advises students to participate in co-curricular activities

PESHAWAR: In order to bring out hidden talents to face modern day challenges, the Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Mehmood Jan Khan has asked young students to participate in co-curricular activities.

Speaking as chief guest at an annual funfair held at Peshawar Public School and College for Girls on Warsak Road, he said his government was committed to pay heed to girl’s education and it was awarding monthly stipends to poor but talented girl-students to show better academic performance. Mohammad Khan , vice-principal , senior faculty members and students attended the event.

“Girl- students have great talent in them and parents and teachers should provide opportunities to them to display their talent. I believe girl-students can do wonders if given a proper platform, I wish they build confidence to ensure their active participation in co-curricular activities,” he added. He appreciated various stalls set up by students and teachers.

Mr Khan assured the staff and employees of the school that their pension and annual grant- in aid issues would be taken up with relevant quarters and would be resolved on priority basis. He said playgrounds of both boys and girls sections would be floored in addition to resolution other pressing issues of the school and college.

Later he distributed prizes among the talented students and teachers for their outstanding performance. “Though not in my election constituency, I will try my best to take up all your genuine issues with the concerned officials, “he promised.

Aishma Khan Shinwari, a student of 6th grade told that she enjoyed the annual funfair along with her friends but however made an appeal to KP education department to provide more interesting story books to the school library. She said that her school library needed more books on computer, atlas, general knowledge, science fiction, Urdu and English fiction and on animal kingdom.

Khanooth, a student of 4th grade who took part in modeling told this scribe that she for the first time enjoyed her participation in modeling segment and found it very interesting. “I am very excited today to find a relief from hard study sessions in the school. Kids should be given such nice time for fun,” she innocently stated.

Earlier, Professor Rubina Inam, Principal of Peshawar School and College presented a comprehensive annual report of the school and made several demands including release of monthly pension and annual grant-in aid for the institution. She regretted that retired teaching faculty members and grade four employees had not received their pension and monthly gratuity for the last six months.

She demanded of KP government to release Rs 100 million already had been pledged by the KP education department in case of merger of boys and girls sections of the school and college.

Girl-students presented a beautiful tableau, variety show, modeling, skits, and national songs. Around 15 stalls were set up in which the students showcased different traditional items including foods, dresses, ornaments, and utensils. Some students made brief fiery speeches on topics of peace, national unity and importance of girl’s education.
