Nine police personnel killed, five hurt in Farah

HERAT: Nine police personnel were killed and five more sustained injuries in gunfight with Taliban in AnarDara district in Farah province of Afghanistan.

Taliban attacked a convoy of security forces near AnarDara district bazaar yesterday. The gunfight lasted four several hours.

Officials said that Taliban attacked the district headquarters and nearby checkpoints last night. The gunfight was still in progress, they added.

Farah police spokesman MohibullahMohib told AIP that three police personnel were killed and five more wounded in the gunfight last night. Taliban also suffered casualties, he added.

Fresh troops had reached the area, he said, adding that gunfight was still in progress. The security forces had launched operation against Taliban, he maintained.

He, however, did not say anything about the clashes yesterday.

Meanwhile, reliable sources told AIP that nine police personnel were killed and five more injured in clash with Taliban in AnarDara district.

Fifteen police personnel were found missing after the gunfight. Information about their fate was not available at the moment.

In the meantime, Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad YousafAhmadi told AIP that their fighters attacked convoy of security forces in AnarDara district.

Several security personnel including their commander Syed Ahmad and his son were killed in the clash, he claimed. The bodies of 10 fallen police personnel were still lying in the area, he added.

Syed Ahmad is police chief of AnarDara district. Officials did not say anything whether he was killed or injured in the gunfight.

Only two Taliban fighters were injured in the clash, he said. Taliban captured some weapons and other war gadgets, he claimed.

He, however, did not say anything about the gunfight last night.(AIP)
