Nowruz celebrated with enthusiasm in Zhob

ZHOB: Great enthusiasm was witnessed among the nationalist and literary circles, when they celebrated the Nowruz (Yakhtar) here. The youngsters clad in traditional dresses and wearing turbans (Lungi) flocked No.1 school ground, displaying enthusiasm and spontaneity swirling in concentric circles they performed traditional dance ‘Attan’ to welcome the spring and new solar year. Minor girls were wearing hand-embroidered and shimmering dresses to highlight the importance of the festival.

A literary organization ‘Pashtana Mutaraqee Leekwal’ organized a seminar and poetry session (mushaira) at district assembly hall. A large number of writers, political activists and literature lovers attended the event.

Sharif Sherani, the president of the Pashtana Mutaraqee Leekwal in his welcome address said, Nowruz means new day and it marks the beginning of a new year and heralds the arrival of spring.

Sharing the importance and great significance of centuries-old festival of Nowruz, Chairman Municipal Committee Abdul Saleem Mandokhail, Deputy Chairman Haji Naseeb Nasar, Muhammad Tahir Hotak, Abdul Aziz Advocate, Abdul Khan Wyalawal, Rahim Shah Folad, Masroor Musakhail and Spelanai Afghan said that Pashtoon Afghan have rich history and culture and they are hospitable, peace-loving people and believe in non-violence.

They said writers and poets are valued assets of the society as they have a great contribution in promotion of language and literature.

“In order to keep our rich culture alive, we must hold cultural events regularly to link the new generation with the history and traditions. Those who forget their culture and history are vanished,” they emphasized.

Meanwhile, on the occasion a mushaira also held that enthralled the literature lovers and participants. Over a dozen poets recited their ghazals and poems, drawing laud applause from the audience.
