Over 2,000 prisoners will be freed ahead of Eid al-Fitr

KABUL (Ariana News): The Supreme Court officials say that based on the decree of the Islamic Emirate’s leader, more than 2,000 prisoners will be released from the country’s prisons on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
The Supreme Court said that in the first step, 406 prisoners including 40 women and 28 children were released on Saturday from Pul-e Charkhi prison in Kabul.
The court officials stated that the prison is not a place of punishment, adding that it has turned into a reform center. However, they consider publishing reports of mistreatment, beatings and torture in prisons as propaganda and the work of intelligence circles.
According to the officials, the detainees who were released from Pul-e Charkhi prison were involved in various crimes.
Meanwhile, a number of newly released prisoners say that they had access to health and recreational services in prison and that they were not tortured in prison. According to reports, 17,000 people are imprisoned in the country’s prisons and are spending their prison terms.
