PDM chief to announce candidate for Senate dy chairman

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has decided to field its candidate for the slot of Senate deputy chairman from Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI).

The meeting of the PDM special committee ended in Islamabad on Tuesday and it was decided to name a candidate from JUI for the Senate deputy chairman slot.

It was also decided that the leader of the opposition in the upper house of the parliament will be named from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). After further deliberations, the committee finalized the names for the two slots.

The committee will forward its recommendations to PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman who will make a formal announcement soon.

Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi chaired the meeting of the special committee in Islamabad which was also attended by Tahir Bezinjo, Hafiz Abdul Kareem, Mian Iftikhar, Jahanzeb Jamaldini, Akram Khan Durrani and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.

On Monday, the PDM had nominated former prime minister and senior leader Yousuf Raza Gilani as a joint candidate for chairman Senate election due on March 12.
