PTI-affiliated candidate shot dead in Bajaur

KHAR: An independent candidate for NA8 and PK22 Rehan Zeb has been shot killed and three others were injured critically in firing opened by unidentified armed men at Sadiqabad Phatak area of Bajaur district headquarters Khar, on Wednesday.

According to details, police claim that Rehan Zab along with his friends was going for his election campaign in Bajaur when armed men fired at them near Siddique Phatak. Rehan Zeb and his three friends sustained bullet injuries in the firing and were rushed to Headquarters Hospital in Khar where he succumbed to injuries.

The injured persons were identified as Sultan Rome, Talha Yousaf and Fazal Amin. It is worthy to mention that Rehan Zeb was an active worker of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf and was contesting from NA-8 as an independent candidate after having some rifts with party leadership for not allotting him the party ticket.

A large number of his supporters and relatives gathered in front of Headquarters Hospital Khar after hearing the tragic news of Rehan Zeb’s death. The public had placed dead body of Rehan Zeb at Civil Colony road Khar and started protest against his killing in bright daylight.

PTI said Rehan Zeb was a party-backed candidate for a National Assembly seat and strongly condemned the killing. It said that the fact that PTI-affiliated candidates and public gatherings were being targeted by terrorist attacks raised big question mark on the fairness of polls.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Wednesday postponed the elections on the National Assembly’s NA-8 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s PK-22 constituencies after an election hopeful was shot dead within the parameters of the constituencies.
