PTI’s Qureshi moves SC for bail in cipher case

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: PTI Vice-Chairman and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has moved an application in the Supreme Court seeking bail in the cipher case.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi filed a post-arrest bail appeal in the Supreme Court on Monday in which the federal government and the interior ministry have been made parties.

Through his plea, Qureshi prayed the apex court that a baseless and politically-engineered case has been made against him and the the Islamabad High Court (IHC) did not properly evaluate the facts before rejecting his bail plea; therefore the IHC’s November 08 decision should be annulled.

It is pertinent to note that former foreign minister has been imprisoned in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi in cipher case.

On August 19, Quresh was arrested by the FIA in connection with the ongoing investigation into diplomatic cipher which had gone missing from the possession of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

It was revealed that an FIR was registered against Qureshi on August 15 regarding the missing classified document. The case was registered against Qureshi under Sections 5 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act 1923.
