KABUL: The Nangarhar-born leg-spinner, Rashid Khan, will play for Sussex in the first half of their T20 Blast campaign, says the UK club.

Khan was a member of the Adelaide Strikers, which won Australia’s Big Bash League on Sunday. The Strikers’ head coach Jason Gillespie will also join Sussex.

The Afghan right-armer has claimed 42 wickets at an average of 14.35 in 27 Twenty20 encounters. In the Big Bash, the 19-year-old claimed 18 scalps in 11 matches.

Sunrisers Hyderabad paid Khan, the No 2 ranked bowler in T20 cricket, almost £1m to retain his services at the IPL auction.

Meanwhile, Sussex Director of Cricket Keith Greenfield hailed Rashid as the most sought-after spin talent in the world. “He has made a significant impact in all the teams he has played for to date.”
