Repatriation program finalizes for illegal immigrants: KP CM

PESHAWAR: The caretaker chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammed Azam khan has said that repatriation program of foreign nationals illegally living in the province has been finalized adding that all such foreigners can go back to their homelands voluntarily till the 1st of next month; and the government will extend every possible support to them for this purpose. He said that so far, around 60,000 such foreign nationals have gone back to their homeland via Torkham boarder.
In his statement issued here on Thursday, Muhammad Azam Khan said that action against foreigners illegally living in the province would be initiated from 1st of November under which repatriation of such persons would be carried out from the designated points in the province. “concerned administration will arrange temporary points where food would be provided; and women, children and old people would be accorded special treatment as per the traditions of the land”, he said and added that currently, three temporary centers/spots are being arranged at Peshawar, Haripur and Landi Kotal. Under this temporary arrangement, doctors, medicines and other health facilities would also be extended.
The caretaker Chief Minister further said that a program has also been chalked out for the easy repatriation of those foreign nationals coming from other provinces. The government is hopeful that the entire repatriation process of all such foreigners will be completed amicably; and action would be taken against those creating hurdles in the repatriation process. He appealed to the citizens not to provide shelters to foreigners living here without legal cover.
Meanwhile, the Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Azam Khan has said that the provincial government will always welcome foreign investment for the development of the province and wellbeing of its people.
He said Govt will extend all possible support to foreign investors willing to invest here. He has said that since the province has suffered a lot due to regional issues prevailing for the last so many decades, and as such it needs more and more investment specially in the field of Science & Technology and Information Technology; and there is a lot of scope for foreign investment in these sectors in the province.
He said that the overall environment for foreign investment is also condusive in the province. He was talking to a delegation of US-based private investor firms who called on him here on Wednesday and discussed with him matters related to investment in various sectors in the province. Caretaker Provincial Minister for ST & IT, Dr. Najeebullah and other relevant authorities were also present on the occasion.
It was informed on the occasion that TRAM- a US-based investment firm has agreed to invest in a fund worth 100 million US dollar for the development and growth of startups and growing companies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; and an MoU to this effect has already been signed between the department of ST & IT and TRAM.
It was further told that the investment will be deployed across a range of sectors including Information Technology, Fin-Tech, Bio-Tech and Artificial Intelligence. Similarly, the department of ST&IT has inked an MoU with another US- based company-TINGO with the aim of rolling out its proven business model in the region, and accelerate digital transformation. It was further told that through the MoU, both the parties are committed to collaborating on various initiatives that will enhance digital infrastructure, foster entrepreneurship, and promote technology-driven solutions. The Chief Minister thanked the delegates for their investment in the province, and assured them all out support of his government to make the initiative successful and beneficial to both the parties.
