F.P. Report

LOWER DIR: Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan chief Sirajul Haq has asked the election commission of Pakistan, the establishment and the supreme court of Pakistan to remain impartial and ensure transparent and fair national election in the country on the same day.

He was addressing a grand Iftiar dinner arranged by the JI Balambat chapter at the Ahya ul Uloom Balambat as chief guest and talking to local journalists here on Tuesday. Hundreds of the JI workers and party local leaders attended the event which was also addressed by the JI district chief Izazul Mulk Afkari, tehsil chief advocate Imranud Din, Maulana Hidayatullah and others.

Sirajul Haq said the country was on the verge of collapse as it faced severe political, economic and constitutional crises at his critical time. He said the national institutions like the parliament, apex court, establishment and the ECP had lost public confidence. He said the JI was trying to play its active role to end the growing polarization and convince the political leadership to sit together and platen the ground for a fair, free and transparent general election in the country.

“It is our demand that national elections be conducted on the same day,” Siraj said, adding that separate elections in provinces and at the center was not the solution to the current crisis. He said that elections held in the past were not fair and transparent, so all the stakeholders should devise a joint strategy to make the upcoming general elections more acceptable to the nation. He said that polarization and negative politics had touched its heights in history and it was the right time to bring the political leadership to the negotiating table. “For this purpose the JI is contacting all political parties for an all parties’ conference.

About his contacts with the Pakistan Democratic Movement and PTI leadership, the JI chief said that he was optimistic about the talks between the parties. He said that his party was working on the sole agenda of holding free, fair and transparent elections on the same day. He asked the political leadership to set game rules and ground before the next general elections. He said the PDM and PTI leadership had realized the severity of the current situation and there was no way out but to reach a consensus.

About the inflation the JI chief said the historic price hike and devaluation of Pakistani currency had broken the back of common citizens. He said the people were unable to buy wheat flour, sugar, rice, pulses and tea leaves due to skyrocketing prices. He asked the JI workers to convince the voters to vote for his party that was struggling for an Islamic sharia system in the country. Mr Haq said that the Islamic justice system was the only solution to all problems.
