Speakers ask UN to respect resolutions about Kashmir issue

PESHAWAR: Speakers at a seminar have stressed the need for resolution of the core issue of Kashmir as per wishes of Kashmiri people and urged the United Nation to ensure implementation of its relevant resolutions to amicably resolve the occupied issue of Kashmir and to give right to self-determination to people of the disputed territory.

The seminar was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Council Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regarding observance of “Kashmir Solidarity Day” at Peshawar Press Club on Monday. Veteran politician and former federal minister, Saleem Saifullah Khan was chief guest on the occasion.

Other key note speakers include, the council chairman, Mohammad Amir Mossam Butt, Haji Ghlum Ali, Haji Jalil Jan from JUI-F, PPP leader Syed Ayub Shah, Sabir Hussain Awan and Intikhab Chamkani Advocate from JI, Nasir Khan Musazai from PML-N, Ikramullah Shahid, leader Rah-e-Haq party, Ibrahim Qasmi, Deputy Convener District Assembly, Syed Qasim Shah, right activist Dr Zakir Shah and others.

Besides, lawyers, social society activists, leader of trade unions, government employees, workers of various political parties, people from different walk of life were also attend the seminar.

The speakers said that Kashmir is not solely issue of Pakistan but it has become a global issue. They stressed that the resolution of Kashmir issue in accordance with wishes of Kashmiri people is imperative for regional, global peace and stability.

Participants urged the UN to ensure implementation of its resolutions for amicable solution of the Kashmir issue. They also called upon the OIC and Muslim world to wake up and take concrete steps for giving right to self-determination to people of Kashmir. They viewed that Kashmir issue was not just a territorial dispute but a question of people’s inherent right to self-determination.

The speakers vowed that people of Pakistan will continue to support Kashmiris in their movement for right to self-determination. They also demanded of the government to effectively raise voice of the oppressed Kashmiris and to stand with the Kashmiri brethren through every thick and thin.

Saleem Saifullah in his keynote address called for adopting new strategy to tackle with authoritarian and growing influence of India in the entire region. He stressed that the approach should be proactive to handle the core issue of Kashmir by using strong lobbying at the global level. “We need to sort out a peaceful and durable solution of Kashmir issue under a unified and organized strategy, he emphasized. He said there were utmost requirements to move forward with new approach to resolve the all outstanding issues, particularly the core issue of Kashmir. A tribal leader said the worst kind of human right violations was being carried in India occupied Kashmir, adding the UN didn’t take any action of it.

He said the Kashmir issue would only be resolved with the implementation of UN resolutions with true letter and spirit. He called upon the Muslim countries to be united to overcome with the growing challenges to Muslims across the world.

Haji Ghulam Ali suggested the world community should play its proactive role for bringing the two antagonist Pakistan and India on negotiation table and to resolve the core issue of Kashmir amicably.

He strongly supported the Kashmiri people struggle for right to self-determination, saying that the blood of Kashmiris should not go in vein, but the Kashmir will be freed one day from the Indian occupation.

Intikhab Chamkani said the India troops are committing worst kind of human right violations in the occupied territory of Kashmir. He called for revisiting the foreign policy and resolution of core issue of Kashmir as per wishes of people of Kashmiri people.

Ikramullah Shahid said the UN should play important role in resolution of Kashmir issue.

He said Kashmir issue was not just a territorial dispute but a question of people’s inherent right to self-determination. He added that brutal force and propaganda cannot gag the voice of freedom nor it can alter Pakistan’s resolute and principled stance on the issue of Kashmir.

Mohammad Amir Mossam Butt, Nasir Kahn Musazai, Ibrahim Qasmi, Habib Noor, Haji Jalil Jan, Dr Zakir Shah, Syed Qasim Shah, Sabir Hussain Awan, youth leader, Tahir Kashmiris, Ashraf Dar, Habib Qureshi also spoke on the occasion.

They strongly backed the ongoing struggle of Kashmiri people for the right to self-determination and vowed that they would continue their moral support to free the Kashmir the oppressed forces forever. They asked the government of Pakistan and world community to play their effective role in amicable resolution of the core issue of Kashmir.
