‘Terrorists not to be allowed to use state’s soil against China’

KABUL: Afghan Minister of Defense Tariq Shah Bahrami has assured Chinese officials that his country would not allow any terror outfit, especial the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), to use its soil against China.

Bahrami who is on official visit to China met Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Chang Wanquan and 1st deputy chief of central military commission in Beijing. The two sides stressed on strategic cooperation between Afghanistan and China and discussed Afghan army’s achievements, security, and fight against terrorism during the meeting.

The Afghan defense said the security forces foiled ‘enemy’s’ plans to seize some provinces and districts in eastern, southern and southwestern Afghanistan.

A press release issued by Afghan defense ministry said the defense ministry assured the Chinese side that being a historical strategic partner of China, Afghanistan would not allow any terror group to pose threat to China from Afghanistan’s soil.

He said Afghanistan had played very clear role in fighting terrorism than any other country and would continue their efforts in the elimination of this menace in the future.

The Afghan defense ministry thanked China for assistance to Afghan army and said Afghanistan still needed neighbors and friendly countries’ increased support due to the presence of regional and international terror threat.

The press release said the two sides agreed to continue efforts in different sectors, especially in the formation of a mountain battalion in northeastern Afghanistan with Chinese financial support which had already been agreed by presidents of the two countries.

It was also agreed the military chiefs of the two countries would need in mid 2018 in Kabul.
