KABUL (Khaama Press): Officials in southwestern Nimroz province said that at least four Afghan citizens were killed and another injured due to gun firing by Iranian border security personnel.
Iranian border guards opened firing at Afghan nationals who were attempting to illegally enter Iran, according to local sources.
The incident took place late Saturday night, claiming the lives of four Afghan nationals who were reportedly from the northern parts of the country.
Meanwhile, another source said that six people were killed in the incident, and the injured person was transferred to the provincial hospital.
Taliban officials in southwestern Nimroz province have yet to comment in this regard.
Similar gun firing and cross-border shelling have taken place in the past as well, taking the lives of many Afghan citizens.
Lack of employment opportunities, instability and dire economic situation have forced Afghans to take rather risky and illegal pathways to enter neighboring countries and beyond in search of work and a better life.
Sometimes, these illegal migrations end up with devastating consequences, resulting in the death of scores of innocent people.
Furthermore, fatal traffic accidents have also taken the lives of illegal immigrants in Iran and on the border area with Afghanistan every now and then.
