KABUL: The farmers of Nimroz have demanded of the government to provide irrigation water for their fields from Helmand province. The farmers of Nimroz held a gathering at the agriculture department of Nimroz province on Saturday.

The farmers said their fields were without water for the past one month. They would face losses worth millions of Afghanis if the government did not take prompt steps to address the issue, they added. They demanded of the government to provide irrigation water for their fields from Helmand province to save their crops from drying.

The farmers said they had shared the problem with the governor and other officials concerned time and again. However, no steps have been taken in this regard so far. On the occasion, deputy governor of Nimroz, Sardar Muhammad Hamdard said they had raised the issue with Helmand provincial administration during his visit to that province.

He said the people of Helmand were also facing the scarcity of water this year. Hamdard said he had put all-out efforts to address the issue. He hoped that the matter would be resolved soon.
