Khattak assures to provide Rs 5bn for small dams

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has assured provision of  rupees five billion for the overall plan of Kabal river remodeling,  irrigational  schemes, Indus river remodeling, small dams, roads of  irrigation department etc in Peshawar valley.

He said that the whole Peshawar valley faced the worst kind of devastation of flood, therefore the KP Government wanted to address the problem on permanent basis.

He was presiding over a meeting on Kabal River embankments, river canal system improvement, small dams and irrigation schemes etc at Chief Minister House Peshawar.

Provincial Minister for  Excise & Taxation, Mian Jamsheduddin Kaka Khel, Secretary P&D  and Principal Secretary to CM, Syed Shahab Ali Shah, Secretary  Irrigation Tariq Rasheed, Director Irrigation Sahibzada Muhammad  Shabbir, XEN Nowshera, Charsadda and Peshawar and other concerned  officers attended.

The meeting was told that the entire cost of the project was Rs13 billion. The Chief Minister said that the devastating flood had damaged the whole infrastructure of Peshawar valley that included district Peshawar,  Nowshera, Mardan and Swabi and precious human lives were lost too. If the entire Peshawar valley could be secured of such natural calamities while spending few billion of rupees was not an expensive matter.

Pervez Khattak directed for the provision of funds for projects of irrigation, construction of flood nullahs flowing to river Kabal, flood protection schemes and roads of irrigation department.

He directed for quality work by irrigation department otherwise the government would come up with an alternative plan for ensuring quality work as it should be clear to everyone that his government would never compromise on quality construction in all public welfare schemes.

He also directed to find a permanent solution to the canal cleanliness drive and settle down the debris.  He directed to put on scientific lines the drains of different areas converging at confluence points.

He asked details about the drain system at Reach-one and Reach-two of the whole project directing to remove the obstacles if any. He also directed the concerned MPAs to visit the projects and ensure the quality work.
