Pakistan records highest new coronavirus cases in two months

ISLAMABAD: The fifth coronavirus wave is knocking on the doors as Pakistan reported the highest number of new coronavirus cases in two months that emerged during the last 24 hours (Sunday), showed the data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Monday morning.

After Oct 30, it was the first time that Pakistan reported 700 plus new coronavirus cases in a day.

According to the statistics released by NCOC, the country registered 708 new coronavirus cases along with two virus-related deaths.

After the addition of 2 new deaths, the toll has now surged to 28,933, which represents a ratio of 2.2 percent.

The positivity ratio of the coronavirus cases in Pakistan reaches 1.51 percent, as 708 new coronavirus cases emerged in the last 24 hours after conducting 45,643 tests. It takes the total cases tally to 1,295,933.

The number of active cases in the country is 10,184 with 642 patients in critical condition.

There were 144 more recoveries recorded in the last 24 hours as the number of total recovered cases reached 1,256,816 with a 97% recovery rate.

Punjab

Punjab, the most populous province of the country, has reported 217 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking the provincial tally to 445,445 with 3,049 active cases. In Punjab, 1 more patient died of coronavirus as the death toll reached 13,074. With 55 new recoveries, 429,322 patients have recovered from the virus in Punjab so far.

Sindh

Sindh has recorded 415 new cases during the last 24 hours taking the provincial tally to 482,826 with 7,073 active cases. There was no new death reported related to the deadly disease as the death toll in Sindh reached 7,673. With 17 new recoveries, 468,080 patients have recovered from the virus in the province so far.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 39 new cases during the last 24 hours taking the tally to 181,469 with 582 active cases. The province reported 1 new virus-related death as the death toll reached 5,933. With 31 new recoveries, 174,954 patients have recovered from the virus in the province so far.

Balochistan

Balochistan recorded no new cases as the tally remained 33,644 with 46 active cases. The province reported no new death as the death toll reached 364. With 1 new recovery, 33,234 patients have recovered from the virus in the province so far.

Islamabad

Islamabad has recorded 35 new cases during the last 24 hours taking the tally to 108,755 with 344 active cases. With no new death reported in the Federal Capital, the death toll remained 967. With 378 recoveries, the number of recovered patients is 107,444 in the federal capital so far.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir

Azad Jammu and Kashmir recorded 2 new cases during the last 24 hours as the tally reached 34,667 with 28 active cases. With no new death reported, the death toll remains at 746. There were 2 new recoveries in the AJK as 33,893 patients have recovered so far from the virus.

Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit-Baltistan recorded no new cases during the last 24 hours, as the tally remained 10,429 with 2 active cases. With no new death reported in the province, the death toll remains at 186. With no new patient recovered, the number of patients recovered from the deadly disease reached 10,241.
