Teachers cross river with inner tubes to reach school

KABUL (Tolo News): The teachers in Momandara district of Nangarhar province each day make a dangerous crossing over a river using inner tubes to attend school. 15 teachers are at Bili high school. TOLOnew’s Sadaqat Ghorzang interviewed the teachers who said there is no bridge in the area, and therefore, they are obliged to cross the river via inner tube despite facing drastic challenges.
“We are crossing this river with difficulties via inner tube. Sometimes we are facing waves of the river but we still reach the school,” said Fazal Akbar, a teacher. “You see that we are going on this difficult path to teach the children,” said Fazal Rahman, a teacher. Educational officials of Nangarhar acknowledged the existing problems for teachers and said that they would address them.
“This high school was established in 1383 (solar year). An official statement in 1386 was sent which said this complex is no longer for use,” said Ataullah Musbah, head of education department of Momand Dara district. The officials said that the school building is in a deteriorated condition.
“There have been some steps taken to rebuild the bridge and repair the complex of the school and soon the problems will be addressed,” said Farhad Stanikzai, head of the education department in Nangarhar. Based on available numbers, around 800 girls and boys are studying at Bili school.
