Transgenders protest against police behavior

SWABI: Transgender here on Thursday have staged a protest demonstration for the first time against what they termed the district police ‘rigid behavior’ which killed their source of livelihood.

They gathered in the district headquarters and marched to the offices of the police officials’ while chanting slogans against the behavior of the police and demanded that they police should change their approach towards them. The transgender led by their president Sidra. Later they marched to Kernel Sher Khan Chowk and talked to media about the issue confronting by them.

They alleged that whenever they arranged a musical show that was perturbed by police and it had completely killed their income source, disturbing their life and caused great difficulties to meet their two times meal. Sidra said that before each they get permission from the district police but despite that they were traced and stopped through different tactics by the police.

“The police need to be friendly with us and stop killing our sources of income. We earn our livelihood through the musical shows and if that were stopped how they would meet their needs” said Sidra. “We are not terrorists. We are peaceful citizens of this country like other people. Let’s us love peacefully”, She said. When contacted Swabi DSP Izhar Shah said that at night the police raided the Hujra of one Aamir Khan in Maneri where the aerial firing was in full swing. “We have arrested the owner of the Hujra and also registered an FIR against him in city police station,” he said.

With the arresting of Aamir the musical show was disturbed and that was not liked by transgender and staged protest demonstration. He recalled that six transgender were abducted on September 18 in Swabi and Buner district area who were later recovered by district police. In reply to a question he said that they provide complete security umbrella to the district transgender.
