‘US pullout up to 6pc completed’

KABUL (Pajhwok): Amid troop withdrawal, the US military says it has moved the equivalent of 60 C-17 loads of material out of Afghanistan. The Washington Times reported the US military had handed over more than 1,300 pieces of equipment to the Defense Logistics Agency for destruction.

On May 2, the US military also transferred Camp New Antonik in southern Helmand province to Afghan forces. In a statement, the US Central Command said the American forces in Afghanistan had completed between 2% to 6% of the entire retrograde process. The United States will provide a weekly update on the status of the withdrawal process, according to the CENTCOM release.

Meanwhile, the US withdrawal from Afghanistan has not been significantly affected by Taliban attacks, says the Pentagon. “What we’ve seen are some small, harassing attacks over the course of the weekend that have not had any significant impact,” the Department of Dense spokesman said. Sputnik quoted John Kirby as telling reporters that they had seen nothing thus far that had affected the drawdown or the US mission in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department was still working on details of its security relationship with the Afghan government once US forces left the country, he said.
