17 Taliban killed in separate clashes

KABUL: Afghan officials claim 17 Taliban gunmen were killed during separate engagements in Kunduz, Balkh, Faryab and Kandahar province.

Taliban gunmen attacked a check post of local police in the Joye Begam area of Imam Sahib district, Kunduz province, said a press release issued by Kunduz governor’s press office.

It said three police were injured in the ensuing clash and the Taliban also suffered casualties.

In Qaltaq area of Daulatabad district, Balkh province, a commander among four Taliban gunmen were killed in a gunfight, Afghan National Army (ANA) 209th Shaheen Corps said.

It said bodies of Taliban and their weapons were in the control of security forces.

There was no word by Taliban in this regard.

Elsewhere, security forces killed 12 Taliban including their commander, Zabihullah Ghazi, in the Sherin Tagab district of Faryab province, police said.

The Afghan security forces conducted operation in Qarya Sheikhi, Lab-e-Shor and Shormahad areas of Sherin Tagab district, retaking these areas from Taliban.

Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi rejected the police claim as false.

In Khakrez district of Kandahar, an attacker was killed after he attacked a police post, said Zia Durrani, spokesman of Kandahar police.

He said a cop sustained injuries in the attack.

In another development, he said a child was injured in a landmine blast in Dorahi area of Punjawayee district.
