KABUL: The Chief Executive of the northern Balkh province Ata Mohammad Noor has reportedly not visited the provincial office in Balkh province amid reports Jamiat-e-Islami and the government have reached to an agreement to end the stalemate regarding the provincial political leadership.
The head of the provincial council Afzal Hadid has told Radio Free Europe’s Afghanistan service that Noor has not visited the governor’s since last four days.
In regards to the reports of the agreement between Jamiat and the government over Balkh political leadership, Hadid has said it is yet not clear if any agreement has been reached or not.
Hadid further added that Noor has also limited his meetings with the people and only hold meetings with certain people.
The provincial government officials have not formally commented in this regard so far.
This comes as the National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief and the head of the political administrative office of the president Abdul Salam Rahimi visited Balkh to hold talks regarding the issue with the Jamiat-e-Islami Chief Executive Ata Mohammad Noor.
Sources privy of the development have said that the government and Jamiat-e-Islami have reached to an agreement and the new governor for Balkh province will be introduced in the near future.
The sources did not elaborate further and it is yet not clear if the two sides have agreed with the appointment of Eng. Dawood who was announced by the government as the new governor of the Balkh few months back.
