PESHAWAR: A Contempt of Court plea has been filed against the Inspector General (IG) and Additional IG at Peshawar High Court (PHC) as the respondents didn’t ensured compliance of court’s orders regarding promotion of 35 Assistants at police department from grade 16 to grade 17.

The petition is filed by 35 petitioners, including Muhammad Hamid through Saadullah Marwat advocate at PHC.

PHC’s ordered placement of petitioners’ promotion case before Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) on 6th February, the contempt of court plea stated.

Neither the applicants are promoted to grade 17 nor their case has been forwarded DPC for promotion after two months of PHC’s judgement, the COC pleaded.

The petitioners were recruited in2013 on permanent basis while confirmed in 2016 as assistant in the police department. However, promotion policy benefitted 153 employees in which several assistants were promoted to BPS17 as superintendent on DPC recommendations but in 2021 IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa issued a notification for departmental exam on petitioners’ turn, COC pleaded.

The petition argued that PHC’s had ordered redressal of the issue within two months but the respondents didn’t comply the court’s judgement which lay in the jurisdiction of Contempt of Court, the petition stated.

The petition argued for initiation of Contempt of Court proceedings against IG and Additional IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for did not implementing PHC’s orders.
