KABUL: The former Afghan intelligence chief and leader of the Afghanistan Green Trend movement Amrullah Saleh has claimed that at least twenty current and foreign members of the Hezb-e-Islami have been arrested in connection to the recent ISIS attacks and for supporting the terror group.

Saleh issued an online statement after Thursday’s deadly ISIS attack in Kabul that left at least 41 dead and nearly 90 others wounded. Saleh urged the people to take care of the security of their gatherings and ceremonies, insisting that the government has failed to provide security for such events.

He went on to claim that twenty people are in custody of the Afghan security forces who have been arrested in connection to plotting ISIS attacks and supporting the terror. Saleh however said the government refrains from disclosing the information regarding the detainees as they are all current and former members of Hezb-e-Isami party.

According to Saleh, the government attempts to preserve the peace deal with Hezb-e-Islami and efforts are also underway by Hekmatyar himself for the release of the detainees. Citing credible sources, Saleh said Hekmatyar has contacted some security officials in a bid to secure the release of the detained individuals. This comes as the ISIS group on Thursday launched a coordinated attack on a cultural center and news agency in Kabul, leaving at least 41 dead and nearly 90 others wounded.
