CHITRAL: Another 20-year-old girl committed suicide at Kalash valley of Birir village at her home late Tuesday night, SHO police station Ayun informed. He said the 20-year-old girl Sadia, daughter of Bahadur Khan consumed poison over break-up of her engagement and ended her life.
Her body was shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Ayun for postmortem but due to non availability of facilities it was carried to District Headquarters hospital Chitral for medico legal formalities. It is worth to mention here that this was the 22nd case of suicide in last 6 months.
Social and political circles of Chitral have expressed concerned over the alarming ratio of suicides in Chitral especially among the women folk in one of the most peaceful districts of KP. Talking to this media District Police Officer Mansoor Aman said that Chitral police have opened a separate reporting center for women where lady police constables were available for registering reports of troubled women. He said women can discuss their issues at the center without any hesitation so as to minimize the stress and bring down the ratio of taking such extreme steps.
